Two people inside a rented hyperbaric chamber at home

How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Hyperbaric Chamber?

Most people don't realize renting is even an option.

If you've been researching hyperbaric chambers, you've probably seen portable units priced between $5,000 and $11,000 and wondered whether it's worth that kind of commitment before you know how it works for you.

Renting answers that question without the commitment. Here's what it costs, what's involved, and how to tell whether renting or buying fits your situation.

Can You Actually Rent a Hyperbaric Chamber?

Yes — it's just less common than buying, so most people never think to ask.

We keep 18 of our most popular chamber styles available for rent, including some brands we don't stock for purchase. We deliver a chamber to your home anywhere in the United States, set it up for independent use, and take it back when you're finished. No clinic visits, no appointment windows, no obligation to buy at the end.

One thing to know upfront: a valid prescription from a licensed physician is required before any rental. That isn't paperwork — it's how we confirm you're a safe candidate for hyperbaric therapy. If you don't have a doctor who prescribes it, we have hyperbaric physicians who can screen you and write a prescription through a telemedicine appointment.

What Does Renting Cost?

Rental pricing depends on the chamber model. A few real examples:

Chamber

Pressure

Monthly

Lying-down portable

1.3 ATA

From $750

7-foot sit-up or lie-down

1.5 ATA

Around $1,200

Hard shell

2.0 ATA

From $1,799

There are plenty of options between those, and we'll match you to one based on your space, your protocol, and your budget.

What's included in every rental:

  • A 10 LPM oxygen concentrator — no separate equipment to source or rent. Most people don't budget for this, and it's a real cost avoided. (pictured below)
  • Unlimited sessions. No per-session charge, ever.
  • Delivery anywhere in the USA.

Other costs to plan for:

  • A deposit of $350–$500, depending on which chamber you choose. You get it back either way — if you return the chamber it's refunded, and if you buy it, it's applied to your purchase price.
  • Delivery fees, quoted based on your location
  • Return shipping, paid by you — unless you decide to buy the chamber, in which case there's nothing to send back

On returns: the deposit is refunded in full provided the chamber comes back clean — no smoke odor, no staining.

Terms: one and two month minimums, then month-to-month for as long as you need it. Rent three months and your fourth month is free — protocols often run longer than people plan for, and we'd rather you finish one than stop short because of cost.

And your monthly billing doesn't start when the chamber ships. It starts after your safety and operation call, once you're actually trained and ready to use it. You shouldn't pay for days a chamber spent in a truck.

How Many Sessions Can You Actually Do?

This is where renting separates itself from a clinic, and most people underestimate it.

There's no per-session charge, so the chamber is yours to use as often as your protocol calls for. The equipment supports up to two sessions per day, with a four-hour break between them. Sessions typically run 60 to 90 minutes. Your prescribing physician will guide what's appropriate for you.

And it isn't limited to one person. Anyone in your household covered by appropriate medical guidance can use it. A clinic charges per session, per person. A rental doesn't.

How Does That Compare to a Clinic?

A portable hyperbaric session at a clinic averages around $100 across the US, and protocols commonly run 40 to 80 sessions.

  • 40 clinic sessions: roughly $4,000
  • 80 clinic sessions: roughly $8,000
  • One month of home rental: from $750, unlimited sessions, whole household

If you've been prescribed a full protocol, renting for two or three months usually costs less than the clinic sessions alone — and nobody has to drive anywhere or work around appointment windows.

What Does Buying Cost?

Portable chambers generally run $5,000–$11,000, with hard-shell units considerably higher. We break purchase pricing down properly in our 2026 hyperbaric chamber cost guide — this article is about the rental side.

A Real Example, All the Way Through

Ranges only get you so far. Let's run one actual chamber end to end.

The chamber: a 7-foot sit-up or lie-down model at 1.5 ATA. $1,200/month to rent. $9,999 to buy.

Both figures include a 10 LPM oxygen concentrator, included with the rental, and included permanently with the purchase. That matters when you're comparing prices elsewhere: a concentrator is a substantial separate purchase, and a chamber quoted cheaper without one may not be cheaper at all. Everything below is a genuine apples-to-apples comparison because the same equipment is in every column.

(Example only — our rental fleet runs on availability, so the specific chamber we match you with may differ.)

First, four months of therapy at 3–4 sessions a week:

Option

What you pay

What you get

Clinic at $100/session

~$6,000

~60 sessions, and you drive to every one

Renting at home

$3,600

Unlimited sessions, whole household, no driving

That's three months paid with the fourth month free — four months of use for $3,600. About $900 a month, or roughly $60 per session if you're doing 15 a month, compared to $100 at a clinic. Do more sessions and that number keeps falling, because the rate doesn't change.

Now — what if you decide to buy afterward?

Rent paid over four months

$3,600

Chamber purchase price

$9,999

Less your 80% rental credit

–$2,880

Total spent

$10,719

Buying outright on day one

$9,999

What four months of trying it cost you

$720

That's the number worth sitting with. Trying a chamber in your own home for four months — unlimited sessions, your whole household, no clinic costs about $720 more than if you'd just bought one sight unseen on day one. That's $180 a month for certainty about a $10,000 decision.

And if it turns out hyperbaric therapy isn't right for you, you send it back and you're out $3,600 instead of $9,999.

So When Does Buying Win?

At around ten months.

With this chamber, nine months of renting comes to $9,600 — still under the $9,999 purchase price. A tenth month takes you past it.

So the simple rule: if you expect to use a chamber for ten months or more, buying costs less. Under that, renting almost always wins — and the purchase credit narrows the gap even further.

(The free fourth month is a one-time thank-you at the end of a three-month term, not something that repeats every cycle.)

One thing that surprises people: session frequency doesn't change the rental math at all. Three sessions a week or two a day, the monthly rate is identical. That's the opposite of a clinic, where every session is another charge — which is why renting stays competitive far longer than people expect when they're running a heavy protocol.

Deposit note: this chamber carries a $400 deposit. It isn't included in the totals above because you get it back either way — refunded if you return the chamber, or applied to the purchase price if you keep it.

The Two Things You Can't Know Until You Try

The math above is the easy part. These are the two questions that actually keep people from deciding, and neither one has a spreadsheet answer.

"Will I fit, and can I get in and out of it?"

More common a concern than people expect, and genuinely hard to judge from a photo. Diameter, door style, and whether you sit up or lie down all change how a chamber feels once you're actually inside one — and how easy it is to get out.

If the chamber we send isn't right — too tight, more space than you need, awkward to get in and out of — we'll exchange it for a different model. Your 80% purchase credit carries through the swap. You are not stuck with a decision you made from a product page, and you don't lose anything you've already paid toward owning.

What an exchange costs depends on the swap. Sometimes only part of the equipment needs to move, sometimes we cover it outright — we'll tell you exactly what's involved before anything ships. Just call us.

That's not a small thing when you're considering a $10,000 purchase of something you've never physically been inside.

"Will this even work for my health situation?"

This is the question behind most of the calls we get, and the honest answer is that nobody can tell you in advance. Any company promising you a specific result before you've tried anything is telling you something they can't actually know.

What we can tell you is what it costs to find out. Three months of renting is $3,600 instead of $9,999 — and if you decide to continue, 80% of that comes back to you as credit toward a chamber. If you decide it isn't for you, you send it back and that's the end of it.

A prescription is required either way, so a physician has already looked at whether you're a safe candidate before anything ships. But safe-to-try and right-for-you are different questions, and only one of them can be answered in advance.

Does Rent Apply Toward Buying?

Yes. 80% of every monthly payment is credited toward a purchase if you decide to buy.

Three months at $1,200/month means $3,600 paid and $2,880 credited toward any chamber in our inventory.

This is the part that changes the whole calculation. It isn't really rent or buy — renting can be the first step toward owning, with most of what you've spent carried forward. And if you decide never to buy, that's completely fine too.

What Space Do You Need?

Footprint depends on the style:

  • Vertical chambers — you walk in and sit down. Much smaller footprint, best if space is tight.
  • Lying-down chambers — you lie flat. Larger footprint, but lower profile.
  • Sit-up or lie-down chambers — the most flexible, and the most common choice.

Our chambers max out at roughly 7 feet in length, and they fit in a standard home with normal ceiling height. You do not need a dedicated room or a garage. (7 foot long chamber pictured)

Power: you'll need two standard household outlets; one for the compressor, one for the oxygen concentrator. Ordinary US plugs 120 volts, 60 Hz. No electrician, no special wiring, no upgraded circuit.

When Renting Makes More Sense

  • You want to try hyperbaric therapy before committing several thousand dollars
  • You've been prescribed a defined protocol with a clear endpoint
  • You need it for a specific stretch of time rather than ongoing
  • You're not yet sure which pressure level suits you (our guide to ATA pressure levels walks through the differences)
  • You'd rather not take on financing

When Buying Makes More Sense

  • You expect to use a chamber for a year or more
  • Several household members will use it regularly over time
  • You've already rented and know it fits your routine
  • You want a guaranteed specific model. Our rental fleet runs on availability — chambers come in and go out daily, so we can't hold a particular unit indefinitely. If you've decided on one exact chamber, buying removes that uncertainty.

How Setup Actually Works

You're not left with a box and a manual.

  1. A video setup call. We walk you through assembly on a live video call, so someone is with you while you put it together.
  2. A safety and operation call. Before you use the chamber, we make sure you know how to run it properly. That's not a formality — it's the difference between operating the equipment correctly and guessing at it.
  3. Your billing starts after that call — not when the chamber ships, not when it lands on your porch. Once you're trained and ready to use it. You paid for a month, so we want you to get a month.
  4. If you're not physically able to assemble it, we can send an installer out to set it up for you. That's an additional cost, quoted based on your location.

What You Need Before You Can Rent

  • A valid prescription. Required for every rental. If you don't have a prescribing doctor, our hyperbaric physicians can screen you and write one through a telemedicine appointment.
  • About 7 feet of space and a standard ceiling.
  • Two standard outlets — compressor and concentrator.
