Buying a hyperbaric chamber can feel overwhelming with so many options available. Brand, quality, FDA approval, size, accessibility, and price are all important factors. But, after determining your budget, accessibility is the most crucial consideration. A high-quality, expensive hyperbaric chamber is useless if you can't get in and out of it!
Let's break down these key aspects to help you make the perfect choice for your home or wellness center.
Price: Understanding the Investment
Hyperbaric chambers come in a range of price points:
Home-Use Soft-Sided Monoplace Chambers: $5,000 - $18,000 (depending on size, features, and pressure rating)
Clinic-Use Monoplace Chambers: $18,000 + Higher price range due to larger size, robustness, and features.
Hard Multiplace Chambers: Hundreds of thousands of dollars (typically for hospitals and specialized centers).

FDA Approval
Summit to Sea Hyperbaric Chambers and Newtowne Hyperbarics are both USA-manufactured and FDA-approved. FDA approval signifies rigorous testing and adherence to strict safety standards, minimizing risks like fire hazards, pressure fluctuations, and oxygen toxicity. FDA-approved chambers operate at 1.3 ATA and are manufactured under strict quality control guidelines.
A doctor's prescription is required for FDA-approved chambers. To see a sample of what you need to include, click on the doctor's prescription link above and take this example to your practitioner.
We are not saying just because they are not FDA, they are not quality hyperbaric chambers.

Size: Finding the Right Fit
Choosing the right size is paramount—we can’t stress that enough.
I started with a home hyperbaric chamber that was 21” in diameter—that was a small hyperbaric chamber! This Oxy Health Solace was what I started with many years ago.

I could not sit up or even prop myself up a little inside the hyperbaric chamber, and I am 5’2” and 110 pounds. I know this can be an expensive investment in your health, but if you're going to be spending many hours per week inside there, make sure it is comfortable for you. Think about whether you want to sit up and read or lie down and take a nap.
Size and Mobility: The hyperbaric chamber must comfortably accommodate the user's height, weight, shoulder width, hip size, and any mobility limitations.
Space Requirements: Consider hyperbaric chamber dimensions, room size needed for access and equipment (oxygen concentrator, compressor, air conditioning), and portability.
Accessibility: The Key to Long-Term Use
Accessibility is the most critical factor.
If you can't easily get into the hyperbaric chamber, you won't use it consistently.
Key considerations include:
Door Opening & Width: Wide enough for easy entry and exit, especially for wheelchairs or mobility aids. Here are three different styles of hyperbaric chambers that demonstrate some of the different door styles.
Low Clearance or No Threshold: Easier entry and exit.
Interior Space: It should be comfortable enough for you to sit or lie down and move around as needed. Consider your range of motion, especially if you are treating alone in a home hyperbaric chamber. Can you easily close the zipper or door yourself?
Wheelchair Accessibility: Several hyperbaric chambers are wheelchair accessible or can accommodate a wheelchair or gurney. Below are two different styles of Hbots that can accommodate wheelchairs.
Here are hyperbaric chambers you can sit in or use a wheelchair to enter.
Don't underestimate the importance of accessibility. It's the key to a successful hyperbaric therapy experience.
